F2 System – An Innovation in Pilates Apparatus

Recently, I had the pleasure to join Rael’s workshop ‘Introduction to the F2 System – An Innovation in Pilates Apparatus’. For those, who aren’t clear, F2 defined is ‘Form and Function’. I was intrigued by how he described his new equipment. He said that it is a ‘living and a breathing apparatus’. What exactly did that mean? I believe that this meant Rael designed the apparatus to be in alignment and as intuitive as he. One BASI belief is that one-size-does-not-fit-all, because it doesn’t.

The day was filled with everything Pilates. We delved into repertoire based on The BASI Block System including: Footwork, Abdominals, Hips, Spinal Articulation. Stretches, Full Body Integration. Arms, Legs, Lateral Flexion and Rotation and finally one of Rael’s favorite, Back Extension, all of which could be performed on every piece of apparatus! I appreciated the fact that the equipment allowed for more flexibility.

We worked on each piece, taking turns and cueing one another. There was lightness throughout the day and it was great to see colleagues and meet new ones. The workshop included working with the F2’s Chair, Spine Corrector, Wunda Chair, Cadillac, High Barrel and of course the Reformer, which I might add, could also be a combo unit. The F2 System is state-of-the-art and it is also stunning. I should mention that it is smooth riding, lightweight, quiet, comfortable, and has an ease to adjust with a myriad of settings. It’s craftsmanship and materials are undeniably of the highest caliber; Boeing’s aircraft aluminum is it? (I hope that I don’t sound like a commercial, because I’m not selling it!)

The entire day was a highlight, to have another opportunity to work and learn directly from this Pilates Master. I whole-heartedly believe in the BASI philosophy and am an advocate of continuing and advancing your education, wherever it may take you. It has been impressed upon me from the beginning to always be a student and that the journey will never end, and for the love of Pilates, we must invest in ourselves.

From the very first Pilates session I had with Rael, I found myself completely enveloped by his way of teaching and of the BASI Pilates methodology. Although I had no idea that there was such a thing back then, it felt right and it just made sense. My history with Rael has been a rich one and one that I am most grateful for. I have an insurmountable amount of gratitude for the career growth being a part of the BASI Family and most importantly Rael’s guidance and mentorship. Fast-forward to about 18 wonderful years, I have had a unique and rewarding privilege to work with one of the finest educators in the business. Thank you Rael and the BASI Pilates Team.
